Born in 1969, John McMurtrie is a leading music photographer and official photographer for Iron Maiden. After graduating from art school, he worked for Nikon UK before becoming a full time music photographer in 1999. Clients include most major record labels, Metal Hammer, Classic Rock, Rolling Stone, Q and many other publications.
I shoot rock music from front covers to full world tours. As the official photographer for Iron Maiden, I accompany them all over the world on their private Boeing 757 called Ed Force One. Published the book 'On Board Flight 666' covering 4 years of touring with IRON MAIDEN.
I love shooting music. It is what I do best. I shoot the entire package from travelling with the bands, promotional portraits, group shots, magazine and press front covers to the live show from every angle. If a band has a spectacular show then I will shoot every element that makes it special. At an average show using 2 cameras on remote and 2 cameras on me I will shoot over 4000 pictures in one night. Some of the year I live in Cornwall and I enjoy photographing the landscapes around the sea especially when the weather is fierce!
