Spend the day wandering one of NYC's newest and unique parks - The Highline. Built on an elevated 1930's freight rail structure on Manhattan's lower west side. This will be a relaxed day of exploration as we meander the length of the park and back again capturing images.
The Highline is a mile long expanse of plants, paths, staircases and framed vista that offers you, the photographer of plethoria of creative opportunities. Designed by renowned Dutch lanscape designer Piet Oudollf The Highline is wonderful anytime of year. With the rail lines integrated into this new landscape photographers have their choice of capturing the natural beauty, the surrounding urban landscape or a combination of both. This abandoned rail line turned elevated park offers unique, new and often unexpected views of the New York City skyline and the Hudson River.
Our instructors Michael and Emily will provide you with valuable advice on how to make your photograph more than just a snapshot. You will work on in camera composition, exposures and depth of field. Your day will start with a ferry ride from the Atlantic Highlands, NJ to NYC's Pier 11 on the SeaStreak. This will offer you a unique perspective of the NYC skyline as you approach from the water including the Verrazano, Manhanttan and Brooklyn Bridges. A short subway ride and walk will get you to the northern entrance of The Highline. This promises to be a full and exciting day of photography exploration and a great adventure.
